AI Gary Easier to Digest Than Human Gary, But…

Here is me, as interpreted by a machine that sounds way better than me

It’s chilling. I have written a lot of words about my views on yield curves, the economy, gold and other market stuff. Just a nerd doing his thing, with a little humor sprinkled in on occasion.

A subscriber sent me this Podcast, which was generated by AI, based on things I’ve written that she loaded into it. Check it out:

The machine has created a discussion between two commentators as they interpret and riff upon the profound writings of Gary Tanashian (my sense of humor, relax!). They are so conversational and at ease batting the material back and forth between each other. But it is disturbing because there are inaccuracies (to my actual views, even as they get much of it right) and omissions (for example, there is no distinction between whether a yield curve is steepening under deflationary or inflationary pressure… big difference in implications!) involved. The whole discussion sounds way more coherent and understandable than it would if the actual human Gary were speaking about it.

That is because the markets and their signals are not that easy to explain. Not that easy to interpret. Not that easy to get right in a definitive way.

It is chilling because these two sound so legit, so human and so convincing. They have somehow brought my boutique analysis, digestible by a relative few, to the masses. But again, the inaccuracies. The lack of humor. The fact that a machine can sound so good, so human, more smoothly human than me. And have I mentioned the subtle inaccuracies? What if more machines create more discussions about important topics and some people act upon the inaccuracies because, well, the machine said so, and it sounded so good saying so?

I dunno. #scary, but check it out if you want a laugh… or a chill down your spine.

By the way, the machine’s bottom line view of my analysis is: “Stay calm”. I would strongly suggest that the bottom line in human terms is “stay vigilant”. I, and many of those following my work may well be calm when the shit hits the fan, because we are prepared. But vigilance about the changes to come is the bottom line.
