April Payrolls Report: +175k vs. 240k expected, government finally calms down

April Payrolls Report from BLS

Here is the BLS April Payrolls report (click graphic):

It’s the first weak report in a while and as you can see, Hazel is hanging in there as her services are focused on cleaning school cafeterias, hallways, bathrooms, and such.

But I don’t think her grizzly smile is genuine. I think she’s getting nervous because all those other services outside of Education and Health have pulled way back. In April Americans seemed to forego their God given right to have leisure, to live the good life. That’s because for a majority of us, it’s not a good life. It’s a society in disrepair (and that’s putting it nicely). I digress…

I still claim that the officially reported unemployment numbers have bottomed and are grinding out the beginning of an upturn. That’s official report.

In the real world there are armies of people who want more employment but cannot find it.

true unemployment

From LISEP’s True Unemployment, which you will find linked at nftrh.com’s links page (under Economy, Technology & Industry) along with scores of other useful sites:

Using data compiled by the federal government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the True Rate of Unemployment tracks the percentage of the U.S. labor force that does not have a full-time job (35+ hours a week) but wants one, has no job, or does not earn a living wage, conservatively pegged at $25,000 annually before taxes.

So there you have it. The Good Ship Lollipop sails on, but its rudder has popped a few bolts and is wobbling too much to hold a steady course.
