Sowa Goat Sanctuary needs our help
I am not traditionally religious, but that does not mean I don’t believe in a higher power or the concept of “God’s work”. I believe in the human spirit and its potentials for good because I have seen it in certain people in profound ways over the years. This experience (my visit to the Sowa Goat Sanctuary a couple Saturdays ago) was one of those times I was privileged enough to see people doing God’s work up close.
So now I have two pet interests outside of my work. The upcoming film, Grace from Director Jeffery Schulz and Producer Sam Kadi, and this wonderful sanctuary for abused animals that my wife volunteers at each Saturday morning. She does this out of a kind heart despite working full time during the week. The people who run Sowa Goat Sanctuary are kind souls as well. You can read their story here:
I have this goofy shtick I subject you to where I’ve turned a weird movie theme into a meme for making fun of technical analysts, including myself.

But what is not funny is how these gentle animals are so badly abused. I understand the food chain, but any animal (even if hunted, to be eaten, or just a pet) should be treated with the respect that any living thing deserves. That said, after past failed attempts to go vegetarian, I have once and for all sworn off eating any animal except birds or fish. Selective and lame, I know. But it’s something, at least. There is just something about the way another mammal looks at you that lets you know there is more there than just walking meat.
Goats, especially, are more like dogs than cattle. You love your dog? I loved mine until the moment he passed a couple years ago. These creatures, in most cases rescued from harsh and cruel human abuse, are so friendly, enjoying a scratch on the head or a pat on the back. Check out this picture of Sowa proprietors Olivia and Jim, and the wonderful animals they’ve rescued. As with my wife, they each work full time and depend on volunteers to keep the sanctuary going.

What’s more, they have plans to build a new barn (they have the land) so that they can take in more of these blessed creatures. Aside from my wife’s volunteer work, we donate a monthly sum and I’ll ask that you consider doing something like that as well. It really is good for the soul to step out of our daily bustle and angst and get back to the earth and the creatures that creation put here.
You can donate or buy merch here. Either way, you’re helping a cause that I will guarantee you is forthright, hard working and deserving. That is why I visited a couple weeks ago and spent a couple hours playing with the sanctuary’s residents. So that I could report back, first hand.

you have a forum to spread the word about values and compassion… good job…. a vegan reader
Thank you. I have wanted goats (just to have) for years but my wife, now ironically volunteering at Sowa, always said no. Something about them…
Yes, they are really cool animals. I hear Trump say in my head;”I love to grab them by the horns” :) Bart
f.w.i.w, i have been vegetarian for a little while now, about 30 years !! & it’s not due to any health or religious reasons but mostly for the moral reasons. I feel an intense connection to my fellow creatures (great & small) so i find it difficult to be an accessory to their farming/killing via the eating of their flesh.
Having said that, I am not one of those annoying ‘militant Vegos’ who go ’round preaching how evil & abhorrent it is to eat meat. Most of my friends are carnivores & one of them enjoys Deer hunting every season.Do I argue with them about that lifestyle choice? . . . No at all, since who am i to impose my belief system on them. I do what i want to do & they can do whatever they want.
That’s why the world is so eff-ed up . . . everyone trying to force feed their ideas & beliefs on others.
Anyway, enough waffle . . . .
Will make a donation right now
Thanks Gary
Brilliantly expressed! We just made a donation (aside from our monthly) because there is a badly abused and disabled goat coming to the farm. Your donation will surely help! Thank you.
