According to the wiseguys speculating in Fed futures Janet Yellen’s last meeting is going to be a docile affair as she gently rides off into the sunset (and presumably, the lucrative lecture circuit). Interestingly, her last meeting is not followed by a press conference, so any jawboning to be done – if applicable – would have to be in the text of tomorrow’s statement.
Even though I would wish for a rate hike I’d have to believe that an outgoing Fed chief would do anything not to screw over the incoming guy by grandstanding as a final act. If another hike is to come – which it had better be – it’ll most likely come from the new guy.
Indeed, the wise guys see Mr. Powell making a statement at his first meeting in March.
