Your slop-era outpost for the pursuit of truth in a Society of the Spectacle

Per an X post just sent:

You may recognize the graphic from Guy Debord’s Society of the Spectacle. Call it Marxist if you will, call it anti-commodification of humans and art, or call it anti a society that is post-hubris, and peak Spectacle in its popular culture. Hell, call it too many young men playing too many video games or “socializing” online instead of being out in the world, like, for real.

I call it too many people making too many assumptions, fighting each other politically, when they have a common enemy. Under the tyranny of a financial system that only knows one thing; how to inflate its way forward. I am a capitalist (duh), and I want to keep it that way. American capitalism is turning on itself, eating the have-nots and feeding the haves.

Much of it thanks to the Federal Reserve and the current monetary system that just may have ended in 2022, even if it doesn’t quite know it yet.

I call it “something’s very wrong and we’re gonna figure it out” (from different angles and perspectives). I’ve been writing about it from a financial perspective since 2004.

On a wider scope, things are challenging at best, scary at worst (and getting scarier all the time). In order to form a new situation for individuals, education and solutions need to be available to address and make sense of:

• Personal economy/finance in the post-boom(er) world, especially for the young
• Intensifying social discord (with flames fanned by those in power, in some very prominent cases)
• A developing anti-free speech, anti-humor, anti-art culture
• In this country, we are Americans, but seem to have lost that identity in any unified way
• But the scope will be global, beyond what Americans are fighting each other about

The noise of the day is all being ushered along quite nicely in a sea of slop, courtesy of AI and other “advances”. Those who are loudest on social media get heard (or should I say “herd”?). Increasingly, ChatGPT is getting heard over actual human sources.

The mainstream media are very much at fault, but so too are those who shout “fake news” over and over again, providing conspiracy rather than real ideas and solutions in its place. But a growing army of individual voices in the small media are a solution unto itself. ANS is going to be a part of that, providing focused but diverse expertise and opinion in multiple important areas.

We are anti-SLOP

Keep an eye out for A New Situation (ANS) at anewsituation.com into 2026, as it is going to make sense of and bring together diverse but critically important topics in written, audio and live form (through consultation/conversation with us personally and likely, a Discord channel). We intend include interviews and guest posting from people we respect, from areas as diverse as finance to psychology to art to politics and media.

I will refrain from trying to over-explain now, as the “situation” is evolving. It will be launched by my daughter Izzy and me. She of a younger generation with many thoughtful, talented and creative people being shut out of the boomers’… boom, and I of the no b/s way of interpreting and managing financial markets. What’s going to make it special is a young artist/writer’s perspective, and that of others outside of NFTRH’s normal sphere. You already know my shtick, but we’re planning to bring me to another level too. :-)
