A young artist seeks support for her first screenplay/short film
You may recall a post I did in January highlighting the upcoming film Grace, from award winning Director Jeffery Schultz (@knagenfilms & Jeffery-Schultz.com). You can contract Jeffery (jeff@knagenfilms.com) and/or Oscar nominated producer Sam Kadi (Info@samkproduction.com) for more details, including a look at some of the likely cast members as well as the film’s mood board, which was scored by my daughter, Isabela. I’ll have another detailed post upcoming, including the no-brainer investment/tax incentive for helping fund Grace.
Izzy Gets Bit By the Screenplay/Film bug
As for this post, it is just a note from a proud dad trying to expose his daughter to a wider audience. I am not only proud of her accomplishments, I am proud of her as a person who grew up alternately brained in an environment that barely knew what the word “alternate” meant. Seriously, this little cliquey town did not know what to make of a person who was unique, sometimes challenged by the social mores of middle and high school, and who just wanted to play/sing music, write and be creative.
Izzy had already been interested in writing screenplays (and acting), but I think collaborating with Jeffery on Grace’s mood board gave her a new jolt of inspiration. Before getting into the details of her short film, a look at her arc of progress:
- Taught herself to play piano beginning at age 11, and then blew away every subsequent piano teacher she had.
- At 17 decided to become an opera singer. Attended Manhattan School of Music w/ scholarship at 18.
- Decided opera vocal was not for her. Took a year off, studied composition casually. Applied to Juilliard, a school whose admissions standards usually require years of training. Accepted to the Composition program, from which she graduated in 2023.
- Typical of Izzy, during her years at Juilliard, she found other interests. These included electronic music (again a square peg at this traditionally classical school, which finally found her a progressive ‘new music’ oriented teacher, senior year), doing electronic/ambient music gigs around NYC and now, after participating to this point in Jeffery’s project, she adds film more seriously to her interests.
Satin
One thing I have learned over the years is that when this kid gets an idea, I don’t underestimate it. Her vision, sense of style and the imagery she derives from dreams, fantasy and history come out in some pretty striking ways. Whether in written or musical form.
While trying her hardest to secure enough business in her day job, post-grad, in the ‘gig economy’ (she’s an excellent writer/editor, always having been flawless with the English language) the art must go on as well. To that end I would like to present a look at her upcoming short film, Satin, along with a request that if you are of a mind to support a young artist who is driven to create, but is in need of funding, well “thank you in advance!” is all I can say.
